The lawyer’s office was opulent, the leather chairs and mahogany desk a stark contrast to the sterile white walls of the hospital where the mistake had occurred. They'd told him, the wrong results. The cancer… it was not his. But the relief was muted, overshadowed by a deep, gnawing anxiety. He thought of all the appointments he'd made, the conversations he'd had, the people he'd hurt, all based on a lie.

He sat forward, his palms flat on the gleaming desk, as though trying to anchor himself. He felt a deep sense of disorientation. The weight of the false diagnosis, now lifted, had left him feeling… exposed.

He opened his mouth to speak but only a strangled sound escaped. He felt as if he were standing on a precipice, staring into an unknown abyss.
