"Accept?" The question echoed in Amelia’s mind. It was Michael – the boy who'd always trip her in the hallways and hide her books. She stared at the screen, her vision blurring. Her legs started to ache, an old habit of when she was feeling anxious.

She picked at a loose thread on her jeans, her fingers trembling. The world around her seemed to shrink, closing in. She hated how this still affected her.

She imagined seeing him. The words he might say. The way he might look. She let out a shaky sigh and leaned back, her body going limp against the chair. She didn't press anything.
