He slammed the file folder onto his desk, the sound echoing in the otherwise quiet office. John's face was flushed, his jaw tight. He needed to get away, even if only for a few minutes.

He found himself wandering the halls, aimlessly. He’d just learned that Chris, the new hire, was making a salary he'd only dreamt of. He felt as if he had been physically shoved.

He leaned against the window, gazing out at the city skyline. His chest felt heavy, constricted. He wanted to shout, to rage, but he forced himself to breathe, slow and steady. The anger inside of him churned.
