The doorbell rang, and Leo jumped. It was Liam, holding a brightly wrapped gift. “Happy birthday, buddy!” Liam boomed, oblivious to the fact that his own party was in full swing, mere blocks away. Leo’s planned karaoke night, a gathering of a handful of acquaintances, was still hours away.

The cheerful energy radiating from Liam was almost overwhelming. Leo felt his cheeks burn. He stammered a thank you, feeling utterly exposed. He hadn't told Liam, his other best friend, about his party, afraid of being overshadowed.

He glanced at the gift, then at the carefully arranged snacks he’d prepared, now suddenly feeling inadequate. He just wished, for once, he could command the room the way Liam did, with that effortless charm.
