He stared at the eviction notice, his mouth suddenly dry. A bead of sweat traced a slow path down his temple. His apartment, once a sanctuary, now felt like a cage closing in. He ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair, the movement jerky and anxious.

He had always prided himself on his independence, on his ability to handle anything life threw at him. Now, he felt exposed, stripped bare. The weight of his missed rent payments settled heavily on his chest, making it difficult to breathe. He felt a profound sense of isolation.

He found himself wandering the familiar streets outside his building, unable to go back inside. The bustling city, usually a source of energy, felt menacing, indifferent to his plight. Every passing face seemed to scrutinize him, to see his weakness.
