Gemotions

Eliza clutched the notice tightly. She paced her small apartment, unable to sit still. Every creak of the floorboards, every distant siren, heightened her unease.

She felt the prickle of tears at her eyes. She bit her lip, trying to hold them back. She couldn't afford a new place. The thought of all the money she would need was overwhelming.

She suddenly felt adrift, like a tiny boat on a vast and stormy sea, with nowhere to go. She wrapped her arms around herself, as if trying to physically contain the panic.
