“Well, this is just great,” said George, staring at his son, Alex, across the dinner table. Alex had announced his intention to join the Hare Krishna movement. The food in front of him sat untouched. He didn’t know how to react, what to say. His stomach churned.

He felt the muscles in his jaw tighten. The house, usually filled with the sound of laughter and chatter, was unnaturally quiet. The colors in the dining room seemed a little less vibrant, the air heavy with an unspoken tension. He felt a heavy pressure in his chest, making it hard to breathe.
