Gemotions

The needles clicked, the rhythm a dull, persistent thud against Clara’s eardrums. She glanced at the half-finished shawl, the vibrant yarn now seeming dull and lifeless. Knitting had been her refuge, a way to create something beautiful, to soothe her anxious thoughts. Her grandson, Sam, was fascinated with the process.

Sam, perched on the floor, his eyes wide, chimed in. “Grandma, I’m almost done with the scarf! Can you show me how to do the cable stitch? The tricky one?”

Clara sighed. The cable stitch… It required concentration, a delicate dance of needles and yarn. A focus she lacked. “Maybe tomorrow, Sam. My hands… they’re a little stiff tonight.”

Sam pouted, his creation clutched in his small hands. “But I want to finish it! And I want to make a hat to match!” Clara met his gaze. She knew she'd be helping him. She always did. “Alright, alright. Show me where you are.”
