Gemotions

The musty aroma of the darkroom, a smell that once invigorated Michael, now felt suffocating. He watched the developing tray, the faint image of a photograph emerging slowly, a process he knew by heart. Years of pursuing photography, capturing moments in time, had faded into something more like a job. His daughter, Lily, was obsessed.

Lily, eyes bright with excitement, burst into the darkroom. “Dad, I got the new filters! And I found a tutorial on long exposure shots! Can we try it tonight?”

Michael felt a knot tighten in his stomach. Long exposures required patience, meticulous setup, a clarity he couldn't seem to find. “Maybe later, Lily. It’s… a bit late.”

Lily’s shoulders slumped. “But I really wanted to try it before bedtime! And you promised we’d work on the Ansel Adams technique.” Michael swallowed down a sense of dread. He knew how this would end. "Okay," he said, the word a whisper. "Let's give it a shot."
