Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee did nothing to lift David's spirits. He sat at the kitchen table, the legal documents spread before him, the morning sun casting long shadows across the room. His sister, Emily, was humming in the other room.

"Your uncle’s will," the lawyer had explained, his voice flat. "David, you've inherited the family’s old cafe. Emily, you get all the furniture to start a new cafe.”

David pushed the documents away, the weight of the old building pressing down on him. The cafe was a dying business, the last echo of the man his uncle had been. He felt like his limbs were made of lead.
