Gemotions

He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking accusingly. The news had arrived like a shock, the sudden appearance of a brother, a secret buried for decades. He was a writer, words were his currency, but now he felt utterly incapable of articulating the torrent of emotions churning within him. He felt hollow, as if the core of him had been scooped out.

He tried to type, but the words faltered, dissolving into a meaningless jumble. He slammed the laptop shut, the sound a sharp, decisive break in the oppressive silence of his study. He just wanted to crawl into bed and sleep for a century. The thought of facing the world, let alone this new relationship, was too much to bear.

He got up and walked over to the window. The city lights blurred through his unshed tears.
