"You okay, Sam?" Maria asked, her brow furrowed. Sam just shook his head, unable to speak. His throat felt constricted, as if a physical pressure was preventing any sound from escaping. The news was still so fresh, the implications so daunting.

He kept staring out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The vibrant colours of the city seemed to have faded, replaced by a dull, gray haze. He felt a hollowness inside him, a deep sense of disappointment that he hadn't fully processed yet. He couldn't stop the tremors that were starting to shake his hands.
