John sat by the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. He felt like his thoughts were being carried away with the water. The accusation, still fresh, replayed in his mind. He should have checked. He should have double-checked. Now, what?

He couldn't sleep. He couldn't eat. He had an awful feeling that he’d destroyed everything.

He kept running his hand over his face. He felt the cold glass of the window. He wanted to rewind time, to fix what he had done. He was afraid.
