Gemotions

The waiting room felt like a pressure cooker. The air was stale, the furniture drab, the magazines outdated. Emily tapped her foot impatiently, the sound a staccato rhythm against the hushed atmosphere. Across the room, her friend, Ben, sat calmly, flipping through a brochure.

She found it hard to sit still. She had applied for the same position, and she knew Ben had a good chance. It was the perfect job, the ideal starting point. The thought of losing it made her head spin.

She rose and walked to the window, gazing at the parking lot. She could see other people moving in and out of the building. She felt a sudden need to leave, but knew she couldn't.
