Gemotions

Ryan was cleaning the apartment, a frantic, almost desperate attempt at order. He scrubbed the kitchen counters, dusted the bookshelves, rearranged the cushions on the sofa. Anything to occupy his hands, anything to stop himself from thinking. He and Mark had both interviewed for the graphic design position.

He scrubbed furiously at a smudge on the window. The world outside seemed distant, unreal. He felt a constant sense of unease, a jitteriness that wouldn't go away.

He stopped, abruptly, and leaned against the sink, his breath coming in ragged gasps. The phone rang, startling him. He stared at it, unable to move.
