The waiting room felt oppressive. Sarah sat stiffly on the uncomfortable chair, clutching the crumpled paper. The wrong medical history was clutched in her hand. Sunlight streamed through the window, highlighting dust motes dancing in the air, but she couldn't appreciate it.

She’d driven here immediately, bypassing her lunch break. She tapped her foot, an incessant, nervous tick. Every cough, every sigh from the other patients amplified her agitation. The receptionist’s call finally came, her name slightly mispronounced.

The doctor’s office was even worse, sterile and cold. The silence was deafening. The doctor explained the mistake, but the words were a meaningless blur. She felt a tremor in her hands as she finally looked at her doctor.
