Gemotions

He held his breath and opened the attic door. The air inside was thick and still, heavy with a musty odor that made him wrinkle his nose. He took a step inside, the floorboards groaning in protest. He could feel his shoulders tighten with each step.

A shiver ran down his spine. He ran the flashlight across the space. What was he expecting to find? He wasn't sure. But he knew, with a certainty that settled deep in his gut, that something unexpected awaited him.

He felt the hairs on the back of his neck prickle. He wished he'd brought someone else with him. He had that feeling of the unexpected.
