The shadows in the hallway seemed to lengthen as the evening drew in, casting eerie shapes that danced across the walls. David couldn't seem to relax, even after a long day of unpacking. The house’s spaciousness didn’t feel inviting, only isolating. He kept glancing at the hallway door, a constant tremor running through him.

He’d found it by accident, while inspecting the molding of the library wall. A slight imperfection, a slight give. The wall slid open, revealing an empty space. A secret. His pulse quickened. His palms became slick with sweat. He pressed his back against the closed door, staring at the wall as if it might open again.

He wanted to dismiss it, to tell himself it was nothing. But the insistent pull of the unknown, and the persistent chill in the air, held him captive. He couldn't stop the thoughts swirling in his mind.
