Gemotions

The house seemed to mock her. Each creak, each rustle, amplified the unease that had settled in her core. Maria couldn't find peace. She kept checking the locks, the windows, convinced she was forgetting something, that something was amiss. The settling of the house felt sinister.

It was during a late-night wander through the kitchen that she saw it. A dark rectangle on the pantry wall. The other side of what looked like a thin pane of drywall was flush against the wall, but this one looked different. She ran her fingers across the surface, a tremor of apprehension running through her.

The pane gave way. Dark. Cold. An opening. She quickly slammed the door shut, her hands shaking. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, but the image of that darkness was seared into her mind.
