“Honey, are you alright?” Robert's wife asked. He hadn't spoken since reading the results. He had been staring at the computer screen for an hour, the lines of text a kaleidoscope of names and places. He closed the laptop.

He pushed his chair back from the desk, his movements slow and deliberate. He felt heavy, as if burdened by an unseen weight. His usually boisterous laughter had vanished.

He sat on the couch, avoiding eye contact. He wanted to tell his wife, but the words wouldn't come. He felt as if a vital piece of him had been lost.
