Gemotions

The flickering neon sign outside the window cast dancing shadows across the room as Olivia watched Ben. He was cradling the cat carrier, a hopeful look on his face. She felt a knot tighten in her chest. She had a history of allergies. She hoped, but she knew.

She tried to inhale deeply but her breath caught in her throat. The possibility of constant sneezing, itchy eyes, a runny nose. The thought of having to move out was a painful sting.

"Isn’t she gorgeous?" Ben asked, opening the carrier slightly. Olivia forced a smile, a pretense of interest she didn't feel.
