From the back of the auditorium, Liam could barely make out the figure on stage. The band’s intro to “Whispers in the Wind” was just starting, however. He shifted in his seat, his hands becoming fists. He felt his face heat up. It wasn't just the song; it was the sheer audacity of this situation.

He clutched the program. “The Crimson Hearts, featuring…” He had to see this, he told himself, though his legs wanted to bolt. His carefully constructed musical life, his slow ascent, his reputation... all threatened. He bit down on his lip. The spotlight was now on the singer. He stared. It was *his* song, but the singer's voice was different, higher. It was an abomination.
