The attic air hung thick and stale, clinging to Amelia as she navigated the crowded space. She was supposed to be clearing out her childhood bedroom. The prospect filled her with dread. She felt heavy, leaden in every move.

She found it: a large, floral-printed suitcase. "Amelia's Archives," the label read in her mother's precise handwriting. Opening it felt like opening a wound. Inside, everything. Poems, math quizzes, science fair projects. Each item a reminder of potential she’d somehow squandered.

She held a perfectly crafted paper mache volcano. It was a masterpiece. She remembered the thrill of creating it. The feeling was long gone. Now, she struggled to make toast without burning it.
