"Did you see the email?" Sarah asked, her voice tight. The announcement had spread like wildfire. Professor Anya, the woman who had fostered Sarah's passion for history, was leaving. Sarah didn't reply, she just kept rereading the email, as if there was a hidden message she missed.

She found herself avoiding the common areas, the sight of other students chatting and laughing grating on her nerves. The library, once a place of refuge, now felt like a mausoleum. Her meticulously researched paper on the French Revolution suddenly seemed trivial, meaningless.

She skipped lunch and sat alone in her room, staring out the window. The trees outside were swaying in the wind, a silent, indifferent dance. She felt small and insignificant, a single leaf falling from a vast, uncaring tree.
