Gemotions

The notice lay face-down on the greasy table. Sarah traced the edge of the paper with a fingernail, the act devoid of emotion. Her usual energy was gone. She watched the dust motes dance in the sliver of sunlight that found its way into the room.

She hadn't answered the phone in days. Now, the ringing was a distant echo, like a memory of a life she no longer possessed. She just wanted to disappear.

She pushed herself to her feet, moving slowly, deliberately. She needed to do something, anything, but the task before her loomed impossibly large.
