"You bought a what?" Sarah's friend, a chirpy woman with a perfect manicure, had shrieked at the revelation. Sarah could barely meet her gaze. The knowledge had hit her like a physical blow. A brutal slaying, the papers had said. Inside *her* kitchen. She ran her hands through her hair, a nervous habit that did nothing to soothe the tremor in her fingers. The walls seemed to close in, the air thick with unspoken secrets. She was exhausted, unable to care for herself or the house. Maybe she was cursed.
