"Flowers?" she muttered, staring at the delivery person. She’d been expecting a bill, or a letter of rejection, not this explosion of colour. The box was unwrapped, revealing a vibrant display of mixed blooms: tulips, daisies, and a few sprigs of lavender. There was a sense of utter surprise. She couldn’t imagine who would send them, and even more, why. She slowly closed the door, a sudden wave of fatigue washing over her. She knew, deep down, the flowers were not a gift. They were a mistake.
