"Ignore it," Sarah mumbled to herself. The request had only been there for an hour, but already a sense of unease was churning in her. It was from Ben Carter. The boy who made her life hell in middle school. She hadn't expected to encounter him again.

She shut the laptop and went to the bathroom, splashing cold water on her face. The image in the mirror seemed foreign, older, yet still bearing a hint of the vulnerable girl he used to terrorize. She paced the small room, her hands clenching and unclenching.

She grabbed her phone and texted her best friend, "You won't believe who just sent me a friend request." She didn't want to be alone with this feeling. The silence of her apartment was oppressive, each tick of the clock amplifying the tension.
