The chill in the air of the newly purchased home settled deep into Elena’s bones. The discovery of the hidden room had been an exciting find for her. Now, standing before the door she'd uncovered behind a bookshelf in her home's library, all she felt was discomfort. She touched the cold, unyielding surface, her fingers tracing the outline of the hidden door.

She reached for the handle. She wanted to know what secrets this house held, but the thought of what might be on the other side made her stomach churn. Her hand hesitated. She swallowed hard, her heart pounding a frantic rhythm. She could hear the faint sound of dripping water from inside.

With a deep breath, she pushed the door inward, and a gust of cold air rushed out, carrying with it a scent of mildew and something else—something indescribably unpleasant.
