The basement was cold and damp, the musty air clinging to Leo's clothes. He had been sent to clear out his uncle's house, a task he'd been putting off. The photographs, discovered in a locked box, showed his uncle, a man known for his stoicism and solitary nature, in a series of lively gatherings with people he'd never heard of. There were so many people that seemed familiar, but were also so far removed from the man he knew.

He picked up a photo of a young woman laughing with his uncle. She looked vibrant and joyful. The reality was a stark contrast to the bleak and isolated life his uncle had led. Leo felt a cold shiver run down his spine.

He slammed the box shut. He rushed to the door, suddenly wanting to be anywhere else. He needed air. The house suddenly felt like a tomb.
