The announcement caused a physical reaction. James felt a tremor run through him, starting in his toes and working its way up his spine. His breath quickened, catching in his throat. He felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of doom. The familiar hum of the server room, usually a background comfort, now amplified the pounding in his head.

He’d always worked in IT; it was his domain, his expertise. The email stated, "Customer Relations." He couldn't imagine a more terrifying prospect. He felt a desperate urge to flee, to disappear.

He swiveled in his chair, staring at the screen, the cursor blinking tauntingly.
