Gemotions

The air crackled with a strange tension. Mia had a nagging feeling. She looked at the desk, where she had left her journal. It was gone. Then she looked at the roommate. She was in her bed, reading.

She approached carefully, trying to appear normal. Mia's stomach did a flip, a sudden twist of apprehension.

"Hey, what are you reading?" she asked, her voice strained. Her roommate jumped, dropping the book. She immediately scooped it up and hid it behind her back.

Mia's breath hitched.

"Nothing," her roommate mumbled, her cheeks flushed. "Just... a book."

Mia felt as if she was standing on the precipice of something terrible. It was a feeling she could not shake.
