Gemotions

The card was a vibrant splash of color against the grey morning. I couldn't remember the last time I'd received anything in the mail that wasn't a bill or a junk flyer. My heart did a peculiar little flip-flop. Gingerly, I picked it up, turning it over and over, examining the lack of a return address.

My fingers trembled slightly as I slid the card open. Inside, a simple message was written in elegant cursive: "Wishing you a wonderful day!" Beneath it, there was nothing. No signature, no clue. A wave of warmth washed over me, a feeling of... well, it was something I couldn't quite articulate.

I went back inside and immediately brewed a pot of coffee, something I rarely did on a weekday. The world seemed to shimmer a little, the light from the kitchen window unusually bright. I spent a long time just looking out the window, completely lost in thought.
