A cold dread seeped into Leo's chest as he stared at the embossed lettering. His high school reunion. He hadn’t expected this, not after so many years of keeping a distance. He ran a hand through his hair, the action almost automatic. This felt so surreal.

He felt a curious lightness in his head, a giddy sensation. He could practically hear the echoes of laughter in the hallways, feel the sting of teenage angst. He remembered his terrible haircut, the braces, the awkward prom dance. A smile tugged at his lips.

He picked up his phone, dialing his best friend from high school. “Hey, it's Leo,” he began, his voice barely a whisper. “Did you…did you get the invitation too?” A sudden rush of exhilaration coursed through him as he waited for his friend's response.
