Gemotions

The invitation sat on the kitchen counter, a beacon of brightly coloured paper, mocking Sarah. She hadn’t changed much, she thought, then scoffed at the thought. The very idea of the reunion itself felt like a joke. She felt her heart thump rapidly.

Her fingers danced over the card, tracing the elegant script. She’d always been a wallflower, shy and uncomfortable. The thought of facing those people, of reliving those years, filled her with a strange, jittery energy. She went into the bathroom, gazing into the mirror.

She took a shaky breath, then another, trying to process it all. "Oh my god," she whispered to her reflection. An odd sensation of lightness began at her toes, quickly working its way upward. She didn't feel the same weight she normally carried, a weight of doubt.
