Her entire life, she'd been plagued by episodes of near-total amnesia, random gaps in her memory. The neurologist described it as "a unique neurological anomaly" and mentioned a patient, a man, who had the same.

She spotted him in a cafe, nursing a coffee, a newspaper spread before him. She sat down, and said, "The… the blanks?"

He looked up, and then replied: "The… the sudden absence?"
