Gemotions

The beach, usually a source of calm, now seemed to mock her. Emily watched the waves crash against the shore, the rhythmic sound amplifying the turmoil inside her. She felt exposed, vulnerable. She was with David, and they had just ran into her workmate, who he'd also been with. The look in his eyes was one she'd never seen before.

She wanted to yell, to scream, to lash out. Instead, she stood, frozen. His silence was deafening. The sun felt too bright, the sand too hot beneath her feet. She had to get away.

"I… I need some air," she managed to choke out.
