Gemotions

The paper felt rough against her fingertips. She was puzzled; she didn't recognise the handwriting, which was a loopy, childish scrawl. The card itself, a picture of a puppy, felt out of place among her bills and advertisements.

She felt a thrill – excitement? Or something else? – a surge of something she couldn't name. She glanced around, as if expecting to see someone watching her. A tingle ran down her spine.

She hurried inside, slamming the door a bit harder than necessary. "This is weird," she muttered to herself, clutching the card. She needed coffee. And maybe, just maybe, a good explanation.
