"Is this… for me?" Ms. Ramirez asked, her voice barely a whisper. She stared at the sleek, black sports car parked in her driveway, its engine purring softly. A sleek metallic card lay on the driver's seat. It was a student, David, who hadn't even passed her history class. She'd always found him difficult.

Her fingers traced the curve of the card, her heart hammering against her ribs. The card simply said, "Thanks. - David." She wandered around the vehicle, touching its smooth surface, a knot forming in her throat.
