He'd been feeling so… ordinary lately. A predictable routine. Then, this. The vibrant tulips in his hands felt like a hallucination. Bright, impossible. He turned them over, examining every petal, searching for some clue, some hint of provenance. Nothing. His breathing grew shallow. He sank into his armchair, the flowers resting on his lap. He felt a cold sweat prickling his skin. Who? Why? A hundred possibilities, none of them adding up. He stared at the ceiling, a silent question hanging in the air, a plea for understanding.
