The soldier, Sergeant Miller, stared at the dug-up container, its camouflage paint chipped and peeling. He’d been stationed here, in the remote desert, during the war. He had no memory of this. The embossed label, barely visible in the harsh sunlight, read: "For Us - 1944." It was a puzzle.

He carefully pried the lid open, the metal groaning in protest. Inside, there were a few personal items: a pocket watch, a photograph of a woman, and a worn-out copy of a book. He reached for the photograph. The woman's eyes met his, and he felt a jolt of recognition, a flicker of something deeply felt. He felt a powerful, almost crippling need to find out her story.
