The afternoon sun cast long shadows as David slowly navigated the rows of cluttered tables. He was about to give up when his eyes landed on a small, insignificant bear, wedged between a chipped teacup and a rusty toy car. He recognized him immediately.

He felt a ripple of warmth spread through him, a feeling of deep-seated contentment. His mouth widened into a genuine smile. He ran his hand over the bear's faded fur, feeling the familiar texture. He remembered all the times he'd clutched the bear, named Humphrey, tight.

He looked up at the woman running the sale, a woman he didn't even know, and asked, "How much for the bear?" He didn't care about the price, he just wanted him.

The woman named a price, a laughably small sum. David paid without hesitation, a profound serenity settling over him. He felt as if a heavy weight had been lifted from his shoulders.
