Gemotions

The phone lay on the table, still warm from the recent call. His sister's voice, usually so filled with laughter, was now steeped in something else. He felt a knot tighten in his stomach. He’d spent the last hour staring at the ceiling, replaying the conversation, searching for a flaw in her logic, a crack in her conviction. There wasn't one. The house felt too small, the air too thick. He felt a need to break something, to shatter the illusion of normalcy. He wanted to feel something, anything, besides this dull, aching emptiness.
