The gentle sway of the hammock in the garden was profoundly soothing to Daniel. He rested, eyes closed, listening to the rustling leaves and the distant chirping of birds. His roommate, Ethan, was standing nearby, his face flushed with excitement.

“A cat, Daniel! A fluffy, cuddly cat! We could name him Mittens!” Ethan blurted, his voice filled with urgent expectation.

Daniel did not open his eyes. “Consider the scratching posts, the litter box, the constant shedding.” His body remained still and relaxed.

“But it’s a cat!”

Daniel simply smiled and took a longer breath. “Let’s talk again in a month.”
