The gentle rocking of the hammock was almost hypnotic. Liam lay stretched out, watching the leaves of the oak tree sway in the breeze. The air was warm, heavy with the scent of honeysuckle. He had the afternoon to himself. He reached for the book on the small table beside him, but his hand brushed something else, a small, blue notebook. It was Chloe's. She was usually so careful about her belongings. He knew she had a knack for journaling, but had never truly considered what she might write.

He picked it up, flipping it open. The title was straightforward: “Chloe’s Biggest Goals.” He began to read. “Learn how to bake a souffle.” “Climb a mountain.” “Start a garden.” He paused. A gentle smile touched his face.

He closed the notebook, a comfortable feeling spreading through him. He settled back into the hammock, closing his eyes, the gentle breeze caressing his skin. The afternoon stretched before him.
