Gemotions

The world felt bright, like a newly polished gemstone, to Amelia. She had just secured funding for her experimental garden, and she could hardly contain her exuberance. Every step she took echoed her buoyant inner state. Today, she planned to surprise Professor Davies, her mentor, with the news. She envisioned his delighted reaction, the shared laughter over a cup of herbal tea.

She hurried toward the familiar greenhouse, a wide grin plastered across her face. The glass doors reflected her animated features. She found the familiar space, filled with the scent of damp earth and growing things, disturbingly empty. The equipment was gone, the plants mostly moved, and a small, handwritten sign hung on the door: "Retired. Best of luck."

A sudden chill ran through her, despite the warmth of the day. The bright, vivid colors of the garden seemed to dim before her eyes.
