The morning’s energy was infectious, and Jasper, a spring in his step, felt his own spirits match it. He practically skipped into the laboratory, eager to share his recent breakthrough with Professor Elara. He had been chasing this discovery for months, and the feeling of accomplishment made him feel utterly weightless. He would probably be able to catch up with her before her tea time.

He reached Professor Elara's usual spot, her workbench. But it was vacant. A quick scan of the room confirmed his growing dread: everything was gone, the space stripped bare. The whiteboard that usually displayed their collaborative sketches was spotless.

A small envelope, sealed with a familiar wax stamp, rested on the cold, metallic surface. It contained a single, short message: “Onwards, Jasper.” His usual lightness evaporated, replaced by a strange hollowness.
