Eliza spun on her heel, a giddy laugh escaping her lips, as she navigated the crowded university corridors. Today was the day! After weeks of drafting and editing, she was finally going to show her completed thesis to Professor Thorne. Her anticipation was practically thrumming through her veins. She felt ready to burst with excitement.

She arrived at his office, hand already raised to knock when she realized that the door was missing. She blinked, disoriented. The doorframe was empty, revealing a blank space. The room inside was bare, devoid of all of its familiar contents.

A small, handwritten note rested on the floor, tucked inside the empty space where the door had been. It simply read, “Leaving. Consider it done.” The lightness, that had been carrying her, suddenly vanished.
