The silence in the music room was deafening. Ethan sat at the grand piano, the keys cold beneath his fingers. Mr. Davies, his music teacher, was gone. No farewell concert, no final lesson, just a note on the door stating his retirement. A lump formed in Ethan’s throat.

He closed his eyes and played the pieces Mr. Davies had taught him, slowly, carefully. He wanted to remember every nuance, every note. He played for hours, lost in the music. It was the only way he could feel close to his mentor.
