Gemotions

The clatter of the cafeteria was a stark contrast to the quiet of the library. My transfer to the IT team meant a big change. I saw Mrs. Davies, the librarian, stacking books, her usual smile absent. She seemed to be having trouble carrying the books.

I approached her. "Need help?" I offered, picking up a heavy stack. She looked up, her eyes wide with surprise, and then a faint smile formed on her lips.

“Oh, that would be wonderful,” she said, her voice strained. As I carried books, I knew how much she loved the library and how much this transfer would affect her. I spent the next half hour helping her shelve books and organize the return cart. I couldn't erase her sadness, but maybe, just maybe, I could make it a little easier.
